The school was founded in 1958, and it is the first pioneer institute of high education in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1961, the school was amalgamated into the Inner Mongolia Institute of Technology (renamed Inner Mongolia University of Technology in 1993). It was affiliated with the Ministry of Machinery Industry and the Ministry of Agricultural Machinery and came under the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
